"Mostly the staff had English as their second language and we've stayed in other hotels in the area that were far superior with more attentive and well spoken staff. We booked 3 rooms in total and one of our party wanted a bottle of water from reception in the early hours of the morning and wasn't even allowed to buy one and was told to go to the shop down the road. My wife and I went to separate events and returned at different times but with only one key, when I tried to get the staff to let me in, despite trying to get a second key before going out, I was told that they only had us down as single occupancy, despite us both checking in together. I did eventually get into the room." (97837290)
Location was fairly good. Not too far from a car park or tube.
3/4 size bed pushed up against the window. Uneven floor. Tiny shower. No dressing table and only mirror was too high so had to stand up to straighten hair.

"I was in an absolutely TINY ground floor room, right next to reception and the entrance to the breakfast room, with the main staircase right over me. This made for an uncomfortable evening, disturbed sleep throughout the night and a very early awakening as other guests came and went. In the room itself there was surprisingly an additional door which lead on to the garden and then back streets of Bloomsbury. This door was a normal house back door, no double glazing, with only a simple 'snip' to close it, and a gap of almost one inch at the top. As a lone female in a big city I felt very anxious about this, especially as the lock on the door did not appear to work; in addition to this, when I lay down in bed the too-short covering over the window allowed a clear view through the door of me trying to sleep. The duvet had a large brown stain on it, the sheets had several cigarettes burns and ash stains, as did the pillowcases, there was no lampshade on the overhead light just a bare lightbulb, and the only mirror was in the 2 metre square bathroom - you had to lean directly over the toilet to see in the mirror. The bed was on wheels which skimmed over the wooden flooring to provide a nice feeling of sea sickness too, and there was CONSTANT noise from the guests on the floor above me, as they clattered about over their wooden flooring. I also noticed a nice spot of blood/mucus smeared up the wall. If this experience was not paid for on company accounts I simply would have refused to pay. Absolutely awful value for money - is this REALLY 4 star accommodation? The only good features were the pleasant if slow staff and the excellent location." (97910190)

"A very good hotel for the business traveller (I was in London for one day to take exams in University College which is in the same street). I would stay again if on my own, but not for more than a day or two, mainly because of the lack of space." (107100588)
Hotel staff very friendly, hotel was clean, comfortable and welcoming. My room had good tea/coffee making facilities (not Nescafe, thank goodness - I boycott their products), thick white towels, flat screen TV above the bed. The ensuite shower/loo were small but clean. There was a fan (it was the hottest day of the year). The breakfast was very good - great variety, portion size not huge but just right - good choice of cereals, fresh fruit and juices, full English breakfast very tasty, no Earl Grey tea unfortunately (English Breakfast and Assam). Toast & packet marmalde. The breakfast room in the basement was light & airy in spite of no outside view, and clean and fresh
My room was very small - the bed touched the wall on 3 sides and was 4 foot wide, but with 2 pillows - inadequate for a double. The wardrobe was 1 foot wide. I could not have stayed in this room for more than a couple of nights, but it was adequate (in size) for me on my own for one night.

Small rooms; one tiny water bottle for two people?!; noisy and stuffy room.

"I liked it and hope to come back" (97450283)
the staff was very very kind, the bathroom was new and some of the interior - in total they do try very hard to please you. I felt very safe...that is important when you travel alone... I loved the walker butter fingers and the big window into the garden, and I enjoyed the good restaurants and bars near by, it is very central, everything in walking reach- and I will come again but I wont book a single room....
I booked a single room (I think the small version of it) but it was really only the box room, but it had a great big window and the bed had seen better days, the firmness was 'out the window'...it was hard to stretch out... The light switch for the room was in the mini hall and no extra switch next to the bed...for some bed loving people a challenge

"Very good. I am going back again for two night on a further business trip and would recommend to anyone needing to be in the area." (108080964)
The staff were very helpful and the service they gave was excellent. The breckfast was excelent and all cooked fresh to order. Water hot in the shower and the bed was comfortable, cotton sheets pressed and fresh.
The towels were a little "tired" could do with replacing and washing in comfort or simular.

"Overall the hotel room was comfortable and clean. We were in Room G1. The stairs down and up to lower ground and ground were a bit awkward, particularly the corners when going down carrying luggage. The breakfast was good with a sensible portions offered in the cooked breakfast." (97633707)
The hotel was in a good location within easy walking distance of Shaftesbury Avenue and Covent garden.
Chipped cup in bedroom, which I noticed when using it on the first evening. I didn't mention it as I assumed it would be replaced when the room was cleaned in the morning. However, it was not - the same one had been washed and returned to the tray. Also at breakfast on the first morning our cafatiere had a broken spout whic made it extremely difficult to use. It is little details like that let the overall standard of the hotel down a bit.

"Overall the hotel was fine for a one night stay. I would not want to stay in this hotel for a longer period though. The choice at breakfast was very good from the buffet although the cooked breakfast I ordered was a little cold. The room was okay but lacked finishing touches to make the room more practical and comfortable. The bed was okay but the pillows were a little uncomfortable. The staff were excellent and were very obliging." (97347328)

"I would not suggest booking this hotel as the single room I had booked for one overnight was the smallest room I have stayed anywhere in the world and it's basically a quick make over in a broom cupboard, if you are looking for quality & value for money do not book this hotel as it is very disappointing." The Location
The size of the rooms are a disgrace and do not represent safety & probably illegal for safety reasons

The room was clean and comfortable. The service was excellent with very helpful and smiling staff. The breakfast was great.
No double glazing of windows let in a lot of street noise and a chill. The room was on the small side and I would not recommend it is used to accomodate more than one person. No soap dish in the shower.

"I was surprised at the size of the room (although it did say the room was slightly smaller than a single room), there was nowhere to put your clothes (no dressing Table),after complaining, i was offered a single room (~originally being told they were totally full up)this room was no bigger as such, and still nowhere to put your clothes.Whilst lay on the bed resting the was opened by the receptionist, as he wanted access to the garden. The bed was not made either day (i tidied it myself). It was arranged at time of booking it was arranged payment would be made by Company cheque, this was refused, when checking out, I insisted they accept this, and after 20 minutes of haggling they finally accepted this. I told the receptionist, that i would certainly not recommend The Cavendish Hotel to my Union who book a lot of accomodation all the Country." (97153939)
Nothing at all
The room was tiny, and cramped, it was a room with a door to the garden, and the only entrance to the rear garden, (see below for more details)

"It was too expensive for the poor facilities offered." (97347549)
The staff was very polite.
The premises were in bad conditions. Tiny stuffy rooms, no air at all,the floor of the bedroom was uneven (not flat, it was like a slope), tiny bathroom, the garden needs a lot of care. We changed rooms and the best one was on top of the kitchen, so very early in the morning there was noise and horrible smell of oil coming from the fries. At breakfast they ran out of cheese, two guests asked for more, but they had none.It was really embarrassing.
